CAPE GIRARDEAU, Missouri. (OIC) Founding Member Monica Hanson opened a Sunshine Request to investigate Southeast Missouri State University’s data collection policies due to the vague and out-of-date statements on what’s collected.
Upon connecting your device to any of the networks at SEMO, you are required to register your device by logging in to an internal page associating your ID with each of your devices’ MAC addresses. Reading through the pages there’s nothing specific stated as to what’s logged, hence the basis of the Sunshine request.
Due to how devices need to be connected, it’s plausible for a user’s internet traffic to be logged and associated with that specific user, either via the aforementioned MAC address association or by using a school provided computer by logging in with their Active Directory server.
